Jesus: His Religion (Reexamining the Thorny Question of Authority) With Alan Watts
“Some years ago, I had just given a talk on television in Canada when one of the announcers came up to me and said, ‘You know, if one can believe that this universe is in the charge of an intelligent and beneficent God, don’t you think He would naturally have provided us with an infallible guide to behavior and to the truth about the universe?” Of course, I knew he meant the Bible. I said, “No, I think nothing of the kind because I think a loving God would not do something to His children that would rot their brains!” ~ Alan Watts
Alan Wilson Watts was a British philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. Born in England in 1915, Alan was an Episcopalian priest who became the spokesperson for Eastern religions during the late 1950s and tumultuous 60s. His first book, The Spirit of Zen, however, was written in the 30s when Watts was just 20 years old. He went on to write more than twenty other books. He died in 1973.
